A Day in London: Shopping, a show and a night out

Becca, our friend Becky and myself headed down south for the weekend. This 2 day trip to London was decided on a bit of a whim, if I'm honest. But there is nothing better than a spontaneous getaway! We had been wanting to look at some art exhibitions so what better place is there than the capital itself.

Now the only thing spontaneous trips don't plan for are cheap rooms or travel. As long as you are aware of cost saving sites and deals though, it is not that hard. Unless you are me. And bring your expired railcard, resulting in a horrendously expensive one way ticket which could have bought me several pairs of shoes and a bag to match. Cry. Nevertheless, I powered through!

We decided to stay in a hostel. At only £20 each for the night we had a great location on the doorstep of Somerset House on The Strand, only 5 minutes walk from Covent Garden. The hostel was nothing special but we literally were only there when we slept.

Day 1

If you want to have a fairly relaxed day in London, filled with nice food, celebrity spotting and just soaking up the atmosphere then I'd recommend something similar to our first day.

Having arrived super early, we were able to make the most of the first day. This started with breakfast on the corner at The Wellington pub. This was excellent value for money and a full English breakfast set us up for the day. With no plans ahead we ventured through Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square doing a general shopping tour of Central London.

As huge fans of Made in Chelsea we were aware of Jamie Laing's pop up store being open on kings Road, Chelsea. With news of him appearing that afternoon (thank you twitter for allowing us to stalk), we headed straight there! I don't know if this is going too far but we didn't really care. Sadly we only met his fellow cast mate and then girlfriend, Tara Keeney. Disaster. Asking Tara when Jamie (her then we were reminded) would be back didn't improve the situation. As true MIC fans though, we couldn't leave without a photo!

A typical way to spend a relaxed evening in London is to see a show at the theatre. True to our tourist ways, we didn't want to miss out. Having heard you can get cheap tickets on the day, we managed to get ourselves seats at Billy Elliot for much cheaper than you would in advance. We had dinner at Pizza Express before enjoying this really good show!

With only one night in London we had to make the most of it. This meant finding our way to pubs/bars and clubs in a city whose nightlife we weren't that familiar with. Don't ever let this stop you. If you've ever been out before you'll know its easy enough to spot the classier clubs and bars from the dodgy ones. We came across Verve bar and club on the corner near Leicester Square. The queue outside and general look of the club seemed pretty good. We stayed here most of the night and made loads of friends who we're visiting from other countries (our favourite kind!) and had a series of hilarious dance offs. It was such a good end to the day!

I hope this gives you an idea of one way to spend a day (and night as it turned out) in London.

  1. Tour operator in usa are throwing in everyday packages and deals which you'll be able to truly choose from and even make accessible inexpensive charges so it is as much as you to settle on what would make your trip worth while.

  2. If you are a true traveler you surely don't want to miss this. This Golden Triangle with Goa tour covers the three golden cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur and the fun city of Goa.
